Sunday, October 6, 2019It is with mixed feelings that I hear of the passing of Aunt Helen - she lived a full life and I am grateful that she passed away without pain in these final years, that brought her so far away from who she truly was in life - someone who cared for family and supported the running of a farm and all who came to visit and stay. One of my favourite memories is of her sitting alongside her sister, my Grandmother Jean, to watch our newly born daughter via Skype, welcoming at that time the newest member of the family. Both could enjoy her, even in this virtual way over that distance. Other rich and happy memories include new years day at the farm, when the Brien/Parney/Thomas clan gathered for shared food , ribbing, and sledding down the hill - and other visits checking out the latest cattle, barn-cats, and state of the fields - all welcomed with pots of tea, and pie, and sandwiches back at the house, with Aunt Helen caring for us all.
