Obituary of Anita McLaren

McLAREN: Anita Elaine (Wright) -

A resident of Ridgetown, Anita McLaren passed away at Copper Terrace Long Term Care Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the age of 91.

Born in Wiarton, Anita was the daughter of the late Sydney and Gladys (Boehme) Wright.

Beloved wife of 50 years to the late Archie McLaren (2007).

Cherished mother of Don McLaren (Linda) of Komoka, Barb Denotter (Scott McPherson) of Leamington and the late Doug S. McLaren (2021). Predeceased by her son-in-law Eric Denotter (2011). Fondly remembered by her former daughter-in-law Lara Harkey McKee.

Proud Grandma to Jim McLaren (Morgan) of Chatham, Sheila McLaren of Chatham, Michelle McLaren (Martin Helmer) of Raleigh, NC; Sarah Denotter of Langley, BC and Christine Denotter of Leamington.

Dear sister to Donald Wright (Eileen Markwick). Predeceased by her brother Gerald Wright.

Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Anita met Archie at the University of Guelph, where they both graduated in 1955. Anita began her teaching career in New Hamburg, and taught intermittently at Ridgetown District High School over the years.

Anita enjoyed being active in the community, and was quite passionate about her involvement with the many activities of the IODE, particularly sewing and the Christmas Bazaar. She was involved in the Ridge Players Productions, the Mt. Zion Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at 'New to You'. She enjoyed her time with the Mt. Zion Choir as well as the Ridgetown Curling Club, her Bridge Club and her Book Club.

Anita loved attending live theatre events in London and Stratford, and the shopping and coffee that went with it.

She liked nothing better than creating wonderful family dinners.

Anita co-owned The Rooms Antiques, and enjoyed all aspects of the business.

Archie and Anita enjoyed many years exploring Canada, the United States and parts of Europe.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 11:00am until the Celebration of Life at 12:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Anita to the Ridgetown IODE, Children's Hospital (London Health Sciences Centre) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
