Obituary of Wayne Houston

Houston: (Douglas) Wayne - A resident of Chatham, Wayne Houston passed away at Riverview Gardens on January 5, 2015 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of 48 years to Barbara (nee White). Born in Dawn Township, Wayne was the son of Mark and Pearl (nee Symes) Houston. Loving father to daughters, Elizabeth Houston of Chatham, and Jennifer Houston of Toronto. Dear brother to, Keith Houston (Dianne) of Wallaceburg, and Sharon Punnewaert (Leo) of Wallaceburg. Predeceased by siblings Garland Houston, Zaida Frederick, Dale Houston, and Linda McGaffey. A kind, caring, and generous man, Wayne's first priority was his family. He also loved anything competitive, and enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, and many sports. In his earlier years he played football, basketball, and lacrosse, among others. He was inducted into the University of Waterloo Sports Hall of Fame, and later the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame. Wayne turned his love of sports into a career as a Phys-Ed Teacher. Wayne worked with the York Region Board of Education for many years and later became the Director of Education at the Lambton-Kent District School Board. Wayne's family extends their thanks to the staff at Riverview Gardens, in Chatham, who have cared for Wayne over the last 3 years. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home in Chatham, on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 11:00 am. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. James Tiffin. Interment to take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Wayne to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
