Obituary of Sidney Copeland

Copeland, Sidney (Sid) passed away peacefully at his home in Rondeau early Wednesday morning, August 24th, 2016 with his family by his side after a lengthy and valiant battle with Lewy Body Dementia. A passionate adventurer and consummate gentleman, Sid is survived by the love of his life Cath, children Sara (Paul Taylor), Tim (Meghan Dunlop) and Len (Danielle Soucie) and 15 grand-children (Jessica, Devon (Lauren Hebblethwaite), Eric, Aidan, Zach, Delaney, Quinn, and Rowan Taylor; Pyper, Tadhg, Ellis Copeland; Addison, Cameron, Oscar, and Edward Copeland). Brother of Lynda Bulmer (late Edward). Predeceased by his parents Sidney and Muriel (Ramshaw) of Seaton Delavel, England, sister Brenda Bailey (Geoff). Sid had a zest for life that manifested itself in many ways. From beer maker, ballroom dancer, problem solver, amateur golfer, fisherman, creative handyman, world traveler, biker, to animal lover, beach bum and gracious host. Sid was a loyal friend and felt strongly about contributing to the community and his church (St. Michael’s in Ridgetown) via the Knights of Columbus, St Vincent de Paul, Marriage and Engaged encounter, and with various efforts assisting local refugee families. After immigrating to Canada from the North East of England with his young family in 1972, Sid began a long career with Navistar as an Engineer. He retired in 2003. In his children and grandchildren, he leaves a lasting legacy of getting things done, lending a hand, giving back to the community and being a wonderful husband and father. His faith and lifelong dedication to his wife, his love of life, love of the outdoors and his love of Rondeau are gifts that will live on in each of them. Special thanks to the nurses and personal support workers from Bayshore Healthcare and VON, in particular Tammy, Lisa, Darren, and Briar for their kindness and compassion over the last several weeks. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home, 76 Main St. East, Ridgetown, on Friday August 26, from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. Parish Prayers will be shared at 8pm. The Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St Michaels Roman Catholic Church, 26 George St., Ridgetown at 11 am. Burial to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Ridgetown.
