HUGHES: Dorothy Valaine (nee Butler)– Peacefully at home, Monday, February 3, 2014 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of Campbell Hughes. Loving mother of Brenda Sarkany of London (Andy), Mary Ann Balcom of Whitby (Ron), Robert (Bob) Goldhawk and Barbara Goldhawk of Ridgetown, Tim Goldhawk (Diane) of Oshawa, William (Bill) Goldhawk of Saskatoon (Alice), and step-mother of Janice Beckett (George) of London. Proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Survived by sisters Beatrice McIntyre of Chatham and Margaret Patton of Ingersoll. Predeceased by parents Charles and Nellie Butler and sister Bernice Shaw (2009). Predeceased by her first husband, Albert Goldhawk (1985). Dorothy was blessed with the gift of music. Throughout her life, she shared this gift wherever she went. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society for over 50 years. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street E., Ridgetown, on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be celebrated at at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, 59 Main Street E., Ridgetown at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 with Rev. Paul Shaw and Bishop Wm. McGrattan officiating. A Private family interment will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Dorothy to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
