Obituary of James Campbell

CAMPBELL: James Gillis – James Gillis Campbell passed away peacefully at Riverview Gardens on Friday December 12, 2014. He was born in Harwich Township on October 8, 1923 to his parents, the late Warren and Jessie (Gillis) Campbell. He was the devoted husband of the late Donna (Nash) who predeceased him in 1995 and the loving father of Murray Campbell and his wife Mary and Ann Mayes and her husband Stanley. Grandpa Campbell was proud of his grandchildren: Sarah Mayes-Tang and her husband Michael; Jordan Mayes and his fiancée Abigail Cabunoc; Jaclyn Campbell; Andrea Campbell; and Lisa Campbell. Jim was the eldest brother to his dear siblings: Jane Jones; Duncan Campbell; the late Kenneth Campbell; and the late infant Isabelle Campbell. He is survived by his sister-in-law Helen Campbell and predeceased by his sisters-in-law June McFadden and Ruth Campbell and by brothers-in-law Eldon Nash and Leonard Jones. Uncle Jim was loved by many nieces and nephews. Jim was a kind and gentle man and was a friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed farming and found great delight in working until the age of 88 in the family business, Transit Trailer. He was a long-standing member of the Chatham Baptist Church where he made everyone feel welcome. His godly example is a legacy of faith, love, integrity, generosity and hard work. Friends will be received at the McKinlay Funeral Home in Chatham on Sunday December 14 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday December 15 at 3:00 pm.
