Betty Emans

Obituary of Betty Emans

Emans: Betty Jean (nee Leatherdale, formerly Kozina)

A resident of Chatham, Betty Emans passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on March 14, 2024 at the age of 86.

Born in Howard Township, Betty was the daughter of Stan and Marguerite (née Shewburg) Leatherdale.

Beloved wife of 36 years to Charlie Kozina (1995) and of 15 years to Bill Emans (2013).

Loving mother to Karen (Mark) Butler of Toronto, Lynn St.John of Blenheim, and, Brenda (Mike) Kraemer of London.

Proud Nana to Kristin Butler (Jude Andrade) and Kyle Butler.

Dear sister to Bonnie (Ted) Eberle, Rondeau. Recent best friend and dance partner to Ron Lumley, Wallaceburg.

Betty is predeceased by her sisters Donna (Leonard) Lutz, Dorothy (Carlyle) Sinclair, and her son-in-law Don Grey.

Betty was a ‘goer’ so these past couple years were so hard for her. She loved playing euchre and pepper; singing in the St Mary’s and Blessed Sacrament choirs, playing the piano, travelling, golfing, and taking part in numerous activities at the Chatham Senior Center. Her cooking and baking were second to none and she was always a great hostess. She cherished the monthly Birthday Girl Luncheons. She was just getting accustomed to all the new friendships and staff at The Grand Retirement Village.

She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, friends, the Lumley Family and her own extended family.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to friends who became dedicated drivers and caretakers on mom’s cancer journey; to all her neighbors of Henry O’Way who watched over her and treated her like a part of their family; and, to Anne Marie Rumble, who was our special guiding angel and a pillar of support. Mom had so many friends in her life and that’s a testament to the kind person she was. The world was a better place with her in it!

Family will recieve friends at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham, on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 am.

In Lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Betty to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
